It’s December first, and I’m trying my darndest to get into the holiday spirit.  Cards, crafts, baking, PicMonkey collages, the usual.

holiday collageDespite the best efforts of my happy light, this winter is feeling dark and dismal again.  It was perhaps an error to try to write 50,000 words about ghosts and horrors for the November NaNoWriMo challenge.  I lost my can-do spirit somewhere between seeing vampires in every corner and trying to find new words to express fearful shadows.  Really, there are only so many ways to say “grey”.  And when the world around you is misty, cold, and slightly weird already, it starts to feel redundant and more than a little depressing.  There really ought to be some kind of product warning at London’s Heathrow Airport:  Caution: England May Cause Seasonal Affective Disorder.  Have Some Christmas Pudding, It’s Mostly Made Of Rum.

Uplifting, that’s me.  So …. ahh …. happy December!  Only 21 days until solstice!

I really think that should be a seasonal sign at Heathrow (I’m so worried about the baggage retrieval system)

My mom has SAD and, consequently, only visits the UK during the spring and summer. Unfortunately for mom, she was here this June, which meant it was cloudy and rainy almost every day of her trip. If that sign was posted at Heathrow (and it could be posted year-round) my mom would hop right back on a plane to Oklahoma.

Although it’s not national writing month, maybe there should be a shorter Christmas writing challenge to help get in the mood! Also, love the name of your blog!

I certainly did run out of steam at the end of November. There are blogging challenges all year ’round … but really, I think sitting on a beach for a week or so would be the best way to recharge the writing batteries. 😉 Thanks about the name!
